Summary

It tok me a while to get into it, and maybe after chapter 11 I couldn't stop reading until I finally finished the book。 I am looking forward to the 2nd book (Siege and Storm)When Aline tries to cross the Unsea, a large black curtain filled with Volcras, deadly creatures ready to strike down and kill you。 she finds herself protecting Mal and herself as they cross, only something happens, something that Alina cannot explain。 But the whispers start to drift over the people when they get back to sho It tok me a while to get into it, and maybe after chapter 11 I couldn't stop reading until I finally finished the book。 I am looking forward to the 2nd book (Siege and Storm)When Aline tries to cross the Unsea, a large black curtain filled with Volcras, deadly creatures ready to strike down and kill you。 she finds herself protecting Mal and herself as they cross, only something happens, something that Alina cannot explain。 But the whispers start to drift over the people when they get back to shore, can she really be the Sun Summoner they have been waiting for?

I like her other series better, honestly

Maybe because I already saw the netflix trailer and reading SOC first, I didn't find any difficulties to imagining how the grishaverse would look a like。 It was so fast paced and during the reading journey my mood went high, then down, then angry but suddenly I found myself smiling unconsciously。 Gonna read the next 2 books asap。 Maybe because I already saw the netflix trailer and reading SOC first, I didn't find any difficulties to imagining how the grishaverse would look a like。 It was so fast paced and during the reading journey my mood went high, then down, then angry but suddenly I found myself smiling unconsciously。 Gonna read the next 2 books asap。 。。。more

I don't get the hype。 The "romance" was meh。 The obsession with beauty was weird。 The story overall was interesting but I'm yet undecided if I will finish the series。 I don't get the hype。 The "romance" was meh。 The obsession with beauty was weird。 The story overall was interesting but I'm yet undecided if I will finish the series。 。。。more

What an awesome, engrossing story。 I'm truly looking forward to the rest of this trilogy。 Though I do kind of feel that Alina is gullible and that it doesn't take much for her to run with whatever people convince her she should do, I will say she certainly strengthens as the book progresses and finds her own, enlightened (no pun intended) path。 What an awesome, engrossing story。 I'm truly looking forward to the rest of this trilogy。 Though I do kind of feel that Alina is gullible and that it doesn't take much for her to run with whatever people convince her she should do, I will say she certainly strengthens as the book progresses and finds her own, enlightened (no pun intended) path。 。。。more

A great way to enter a new fantasy universe。 A light read though the details really pull you in, leaving you excited to discover the next chapter。

Not gonna lie, it took me a while to get hooked, but when I did, it was actually really really good。 I mean, kind of predictable, but I think that's just because I've read too much Sarah J Maas。I'm embarrassed to say that I was secretly hoping the Darkling wasn't evil, but now I know that was just me being stupid, so-But I swear to God if Mal isn't endgame, someone's getting sucker-punched。Alright, with all of that being said, it's time for book two bitches <3 Not gonna lie, it took me a while to get hooked, but when I did, it was actually really really good。 I mean, kind of predictable, but I think that's just because I've read too much Sarah J Maas。I'm embarrassed to say that I was secretly hoping the Darkling wasn't evil, but now I know that was just me being stupid, so-But I swear to God if Mal isn't endgame, someone's getting sucker-punched。Alright, with all of that being said, it's time for book two bitches <3 。。。more

Honestly a great book。 I didn't want to put it down and I did not expect the plot twist in this book but it is amazing。 I would definitely recommend this book for others to read。 I can't wait to see how the Netflix adaptation of this book translates onto screen :) Honestly a great book。 I didn't want to put it down and I did not expect the plot twist in this book but it is amazing。 I would definitely recommend this book for others to read。 I can't wait to see how the Netflix adaptation of this book translates onto screen :) 。。。more

Okay, yeah, this is not exactly a literary masterpiece, but! It was fun! I really enjoyed this book and I was not really that bothered by the issues some people have with it。 Sure, Alina is a little shallow and doesn't have much in terms of personality and character development, but she cares a lot about Ravka, and her only friend (I also don't understand all the Mal-hate?)。 My main complaint is that I at times felt like I had no idea where the story was headed, and there is no end-goal in sight Okay, yeah, this is not exactly a literary masterpiece, but! So I read this because of the hype surrounding the upcoming Netflix show and it was ok。 I hoping the other books have stronger female characters。

The world-building and characters were amazing!

*4。5 Stars*I got into this book really quickly。 I loved the world building and magic system。 I did feel like there was just something missing。 And unnameable something, but I find that can happen a lot with the first book in a series/world。 Hoping I’ll find that missing something in the second book!

This review has been hidden because it contains spoilers。 To view it, click here。 First I have a question to Bardugo fans out there: Does it get better? Because what I read was a hero's journey completely generic, forgettable, dramatic, adolescent, a drama (the worst kind one)。 Of course, there are its positive points, the fact that the protagonist is a strong woman, with personality, funny。 The fact that she wasn't very smart weighed heavily。 First, it was obvious that the Darkling was not that nice and immaculate guy that she already fell in love with in the first chapters。 First I have a question to Bardugo fans out there: Does it get better? Because what I read was a hero's journey completely generic, forgettable, dramatic, adolescent, a drama (the worst kind one)。 Of course, there are its positive points, the fact that the protagonist is a strong woman, with personality, funny。 The fact that she wasn't very smart weighed heavily。 First, it was obvious that the Darkling was not that nice and immaculate guy that she already fell in love with in the first chapters。 Second, his plans make no sense in any reality。 If he was really nice and really wanted to end the fold of shadows for good, after that, the king would be strengthened, the grishas would become court clowns, obsolete even for the first army。 If he managed to carry out his plan right from the start, the volcras would be eliminated, ok, but he knew that this would not be the end。 There would be countless wars against him, however much the fold would expand, the volkras would no longer exist, everyone would be good in the darkness, they would find ways to put light in the darkness of the fold of the shadows, their grishas would die in countless wars waged by people。 The Darkling would actually lose its power very quickly and easier than he thinks。 There is also romance。 Aff。 What a dull, unsalted romance。 Two guys who don't have a minimum of social skills, waiting long enough to kiss the girl, it sucked to read the ridiculous romance parts with the Darkling and Maly and the parts that she and Maly go in search of the deer ( that in the end it didn't work at all, didn't it ?!) and wow, what was that about the Darkling already showing who he is over there near the deer? Alina is so silly and was so broken and fragile that I am sure that if he continued to be kind, nice, disbelieve Bahgra, etc。, she would certainly believe him, I could see and feel this happening during the reading。 Certainly a being as powerful as the Darkling, with so many years of experience, would know how to conduct something like this and would not have gone bad in the end。 It's not completely disposable because I thought Grisha's world was really cool, I found it very interesting and it got me a lot, I hope to meet them more in the future with better and less childish stories。 。。。more
